(130904-05) Han Geng and Baz Luhrmann weibo conversation
Han Geng weibo post translation by pocketofstars@geng-bao.net

#The Great Gatsby# What a beautiful film! What left the deepest impression was the scene where Gatsby met up with Daisy a few years later; the actors’ performances of the nuances revealed their skilled training. My favorite was the fascinating, sumptuous, and moving music throughout the entire film! @Baz_Luhrmann Thanks for the great movie and the amazing movie soundtrack!

China’s Han Geng is the first Chinese male actor to star in ‘Transformers 4’.

Congratulations are in order for Han Geng, because he just scored a role in the fourth installment of Michael Bay’s highly successful  franchise, Transformers. Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) congratulated Han Geng on becoming the first Chinese Male Actor to be cast.

Han Geng, who is one of China’s most well-known pop idols, has already a rich history with Viacom, apart from Paramount Pictures, through MTV and Nickelodeon. He was named the most Popular Mainland Male Singer at the CCTV MTV Mandarin Music Honors, which celebrates the best in music from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong in August 2012. This was followed by Han Geng’s win in the Worldwide Act category at last year’s MTV EMA, MTV’s global celebration of the year’s best in music and one of the most influential awards programs in the music industry. He emerged the winner after fans voted for an artist or group from within five different regions. Most recently, he won the Favorite Asian Act at the Nickelodeon’s 26th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards in March 2013.

“We are absolutely delighted to hear Paramount Pictures, which is one of Viacom’s brands, officially cast Han Geng in the next installment of this blockbuster franchise over the weekend. From the MTV EMA last year to this year’s Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, we knew he was a fast rising Asian star. We will continue to elevate more Chinese artists at international platforms, grow the awareness and appreciation of Chinese music and artists for fans around the world to enjoy,” said Indra Suharjono, VIMN Asia’s executive vice president and managing director.

BEIJING, July 15 (Xinhuanet) — Director Michael Bay has announced that Chinese pop star Han Geng will join the cast of “Transformers 4".

Bay wrote in a post on his Website, “He’s one of Asia’s top stars in the worlds of music, television and movies and has become one of the most influential entertainers in China… Welcome Han Geng to the cast of ‘Transformers 4’."

Han Geng also expressed his excitement on his Twitter page.

Han Geng’s character in the film is still unknown, but Sohu.com cited an unnamed producer of the film as saying that Han Geng will be seen by the global audience, and that “Transformers 4" will not follow “Iron Man 3", which invited Chinese actress Fan Bingbing to its cast, but only kept her in its China-only version.

"Transformers 4" is slated for release on June 27, 2014. Han Geng will join Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, and another Chinese star, Li Bingbing.

Han Geng was formerly known as the only Chinese member of the K-pop group Super Junior. He began perusing a solo career in 2009. He won the Worldwide Act award at the 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards.

He has starred in a number of TV dramas and films, including Zhao Wei’s top-grossing film “So Young".

Han Geng, most recently seen in the blockbuster drama “So Young," becomes the second Chinese star — after Li Bingbing — to join the latest installment of Michael Bay’s franchise.

HONG KONG – Han Geng, one of China’s most well-known pop idols, will be joining the latest installment of the Transformersfranchise, according to a statement released on the online portal of the film’s Chinese co-producers.

The announcement on the Weibo account of m1905.com, owned and operated byTransformers 4 co-producer China Movie Channel, was echoed by a message on Michael Bay’s website, in which the director described Han as “one of Asia’s top stars in the worlds of music, television and movies and has become one of the most influential entertainers in China.”

“Now he’ll also be known for Transformers 4. Welcome Han Geng to the cast of Transformers,” Bay wrote.

On his own Weibo account, Han posted a message thanking Bay and the film’s production partners Paramount Pictures, Jiaflix Enterprises and the China Movie Channel and said the move is “a childhood dream coming true.”

While the actor could now claim Hollywood-sanctioned pedigree by getting the Transformers gig, his presence might also prove to be a coup on the producers’ part too.

The 29-year-old is a megastar in both his home country – he has 35 millions followers on his Weibo account – and South Korea, where he began his show-business career as a member of the chart-topping pop group Super Junior. Han was most recently seen in Vicki Zhao Wei’s So Young, one of the biggest homegrown hits of the year with box office earnings of $117 million (719 million yuan).

Han is the second Chinese star to have confirmed a part in Transformers 4, with Li Bingbing already on board the vehicle. As well as casting A-list talent, the filmmakers have also called for wannabe Chinese actors to join a talent competition. More than 70,000 applications have been filed, according to an article published on m1905.com – among them established actors such as Peter Ho and Wang Dongcheng.

One hundred contestants will be picked for intensive training programs, with the number whittled down to four by the end of August through a series of recorded competitions and performances to be edited into TV programs and broadcast on China Movie Channel.

Shooting for Transformers 4 began last month, with location shoots in China scheduled to take place in the fall. The film, which stars Mark Wahlberg, Jack Reynor, Sophia Myles and Stanley Tucci, will be released June 27, 2014.

Michael Bay casts another Asian star

imageWe’ve gotten used to Michael Bay using his website to introduce the shiny new cars and trucks that will end up part of the robotic cast for Transformers 4. So it’s almost a surprise when he uses it to reveal a piece of human casting. But yes, Han Geng is not the sporty new Nissan, he’s a huge star in China and will be appearing alongside Optimus and co.

Never one to miss a trick when it comes to canny decisions in appealing to audiences, Bay has included a decent chunk of filming in China as well as the States as he cranks the cameras on the current film, and included actors such as Bingbing Li. As for Geng, “He’s one of Asia’s top stars in the worlds of music, television and movies and has become one of the most influential entertainers in China,” according to Bay’s site.

The human focus of the movie, though, will be Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor in the tale set after Dark Of The Moon’s devastating Battle Of Chicago, which sees new Transformer threats arriving. Bay is planning to kick off a fresh set of films with this one, but will likely hand over directing duties to someone else in future.

With Stanley Tucci, Sophia Myles, Kelsey Grammer and T.J. Miller also aboard, Transformers 4will flatten our screens on June 27 next year.
